This is going to be one of those “a bit of this, a bit of that” posts…so hang on for the ride! I finally had a chance to cut into my Color Me Retro….
I snagged a few additional supplies…any tips on using grommets??
Look at this adorable clutch the Sewing Mom did with scraps won here!! Awesome and inspiring!
I took a bit of a jump and am an exhibitor on papernstitch….oh my!
Here is the giveaway this week….some fun, fun goodies! Happy Sewing!

I’ve never used grommets before…I guess you’ll have to inspire me. =) I see your zipper…is there a pouch in your near future?
Have a great week!
I’ve never used grommets either Brooke so I guess we’re hoping you’ll show us how to use them!!
I have used them once, on a fold over bag from Noodlehead http://www.noodle-head.com/2010/03/fold-over-bag-tutorial.html and I bought a starter kit which was just too flimsy. In the end I used a leather punch to get a nice hole and rested it on hardwood to make a firm surface. Yours looks a bit more robust so you may not have a problem. Test one out on scrap first (if you haven’t given all your scraps away!). Good luck jennylarking@gmail.com
I’ve never used grommets either ;(
I love Sewing Mom’s clutch. The yo-yo detail is adorable!!!
I tried to find you on papersnitch, but no luck. Do you have a link you can share?
Love that quilt block…it gives me lots of ideas for the fabric I picked up last week! Sorry, I can’t help with the grommets…
Pretty quilt block. I haven’t used grommets before either. You will have to let us know how it works. Cute scraps.
thanks for the giveaway
…about the grommets… mind your thumbs. 🙂
These are a happy looking bunch of scraps! They could distract me for a while from ALL THIS SNOW!!!
I’ll certainly check out Papernstitch!
I always love getting a peek at your fabric scraps! Thanks for the chance to win!
A bit of this and that is always fun!
Thanks for the chance to win!!! I wonder if there is a little Color Me Retro in there 😉
In regards to grommets, read the instructions. Work on a solid surface that has a bit of give and go slow so you don’t damage them. I generally use a solid plastic chopping board (really cheap one from Ikea is brilliant), then I position the grommet, protect both sides with a piece of wadding that I have doubled over and “quilted” (sewn together so it doesn’t unfold). Finally I give one good tap, check and then do another tap. I only use a hammer style as I have used the squeeze tool and I just don’t have the strength to make it work well.
I hope this helps. If not, check out this site – she has just released a brilliant bag with grommets and I am sure she would be willing to give you some advice. – http://www.sewsweetness.com/
Good Luck!!
I’ve only used the giant plastic grommets. They are very easy, but no help for the metal ones!
I haven’t used grommets, but I think they look awesome. As usual, your giveaway has awesome goodies!
Make sure you have a hard surface otherwise I have had good luck with them! Great fabrics.
Fun fabrics!
Grommets=pain in the kiester, if you ask me! 🙂 I agree with Amanda….Get the kit I got at the hardware store. 🙂
I have never used grommets, not quite that brave. Thanks for another lovely giveaway.
