binding tips part 1 + giveaway

hello Monday!

I received a request to share a few of my binding tips…so today begins a bit of a series….

I am sure to some, these will seem super basic, but I figured to share my process…who knows, you might glean a new hint…

I like to join my binding strips on a 45 degree angle…I feel like there is less bulk when folding the binding in half lengthwise…I trim off the excess…

I most always cut binding 2.5 inches wide and I love to press it in half as you see here…

this binding is for one of my smaller pieces, so I cut the end on a 45 degree angle, fold back a bit and iron…so that is why you see the end looking different than if you were binding a larger piece…

I like to begin sewing on the lower right hand corner…just something I have always done…I leave a little tail and then begin sewing…I do use a scant 1/4 inch seam…just like I do for piecing…

I sew the binding on pretty much using the standard method…stopping a quarter inch for the end and then folding it as I am sure you have seen illustrated many times….

to be continued….

and the giveaway for today….

spy something fun??

leave me a comment to enter…

I will announce a winner on Friday…

Happy Sewing!

Someone shared a tip about not ironing the binding in half, and although it seems like the binding is unruly while sewing it onto the quilt; I did notice that the binding seemed to cooperate better. Try it and let me know what you think.

This is so interesting! I was watching a couple of videos last week about how to bind a mug rug. It’s a great way to start for me!
