I clean my sewing machine after every major project (quilt, dress, etc) and have it taken in once a year to have professionally checked and cleaned.

Each time I wind bobbins (about 6 at a time) I also take time to clean lint out of my machine. And yearly cleanings at the shop are something I do as well. Keeps everything in good working order! Beautiful batiks!

Thankfully my husband cleans mine for me.

What kind of difference is there in using a single hole plate?

I do clean my machines but do not take them in annually since no dealer conveniently located. It’s a miserable drive to the closest Bernina dealer. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the giveaway.

I have never taken my machine to be done professionally, although I do have e little tinker with it myself occasionally. x

I try to clean my machine after every big project or several small ones. I don’t have a source for professional cleanings now that the shop where I bought the machine has closed.

Timely comment on cleaning our machines. I clean mine regularly for the main dust bunnies and do frequent needle changes. Sunday night it choked up on me – clearly some months of lint or thread wound tightly inside. I couldn’t get to the underside of the bobbin case (Necchi made the screw so small it was impossible to use a junior screwdriver in such a small space) that I folded and took in for maintenance. Good habit to be in – just like our cars need tuning so do these machines!

I clean the lint away and oil about once a month. The machine goes in for a good check-up every year or two depending how much I’ve used it for quilting.

Would love to know what this new single hole tool is. What a bestie you have! I’ve only had my machine for a little over a year. I wish I used it as much as you. So grateful you aren’t taken no a big break for the summer!

I clean mine regularly! I love the colors of the scraps. Makes me think of cold sherbet on these hot summer days.

Oh, you are putting me to shame! I thought I was being good, cleaning out the bobbin space (whatever the heck that is called), using my tiny little whisker, feeling so diligent…Not so fast, missy. Turns out there is much more to being a good sewing machine cleaner than that–as everyone else who has commented here could have told me! A few weeks ago my machine yelped and started sewing like a creature in distress–completely ignoring the settings. I thought the computer itself was melting down. I rushed it to the local sewing machine shop/fabric shop and they were able to get her running like a dream in a few hours. Their diagnosis was that she was filled with lint. I was quite embarrassed and equally relieved, having seen how much a new machine would have cost. (Although, for a quick minute i was in love with one of the machines I saw there. I admit it.) So, ladies, don’t be like me. Venture further than just sweeping out the bobbin space.

    Please, count me in too!!!

I do not sew frequently, so I usually store my machine under a dust cover and would bring it in for a cleaning if it was not working well… I know, that sounds terrible! Love the bright colors of that batik fabric!

Lovely give away. I don’t think I have ever had my machine professionally cleaned, but I do clean it myself thoroughly a couple of times a year. I used to sell Singers and they taught me well.
