I have designed paper piecing patterns freehand and also in EQ. I have done lots of letters. I don’t have great drawing skills so I haven’t done too many things that require drawing. And many times I have taken a traditionally pieced pattern and drawn it for paper piecing. As for tips…about all I can say is you need to have pretty good paper piecing skills to start drawing patterns. Unless you have software. Oh, and one important thing, be sure to reverse your designs if they have a direction. The first time you design and piece your own letter R and it comes out backwards, then forever after you will remember about reversing!
