stars for stella quilt + giveaway

well….hello Monday!
are you ready for this??
stella
today I am sharing my Stars for Stella quilt tutorial….
enjoy!
stella
Stella is Lotta Jansdotter’s next line for Windham
love the sweet colors and prints in this line…
I used all 13 prints for this quilt
plus a yard for backing
stella
I began by cutting three 4.5 inch strips from each of the light colored fat quarters, then sub-cut into 12 4.5 inch squares
from each of the six darker prints, cut two 6 inch strips
sub-cut into four 6 inch squares and one 4.5 inch square
cut nine 2.5 inch strips from the leftover fat quarters for binding
stella fabric
in random order, layout the light squares nine across by ten down
every so often, replace a light square with a dark one
this will be where your wonky stars will go
stella
to construct the star block, select a background square, place a 6 inch square of one of the darker prints, on an angle, right sides together and sew a ¼ inch from the edge of the darker square
these points are improv, so there is no right or wrong size
I like to trim off the excess print fabric
press the seam and trim the square to 4.5 inches as shown in the photo
stella
to make the other point, place the darker print square at an angle on the print square as illustrated in the above picture
sew a ¼ inch from the raw edge of the darker print square
trim off the excess of the print square
make sure as you piece the darker square that you have plenty of overlap to make the star points when sewing the squares together
stella
repeat to make 3 more star points for a total of 4 as illustrated in the above photo
repeat these steps for each of the six stars
stella fabric
once the star points were constructed, I began sewing the squares into rows and then sewed the rows into one unit
stella
here is my finished top…
stella
and here it is quilted with a fun star and loop design (thanks Gayle!!)
stella
I used nine 2.5 inch strips from the leftover light prints for the binding
sew pieces into one long strip and machine sew onto the quilt
machine or hand sew the binding to the back side
stella
and done!
if you would like a PDF of this project…leave me a comment or email me – brooke@sillymamaquilts.com
I hope you have enjoyed this project!!

stella
and now it is your turn…
Windham is graciously giving away a fat quarter bundle of this line to one of you!!
leave me a comment on what you would make…

Happy Sewing!
