sunshine serenade tutorial + giveaway

sunshine serenade
Hello Wednesday!
today I have another fun treat in store…
a free tutorial for this runner
sunshine serenade
AND a fat quarter bundle to giveaway – wahooo!
let’s get started….
sunshine serenade
The design idea behind this runner was to use most of the fabrics in this line. I cut a strip from each fabric and then sub-cut into squares. It is a fun runner to design and sew together. One variation would be to add borders or to add some solid squares for a different look.

Supplies
Variety of 3.5 inch squares from Sunshine Serenade
At least 16 different prints and at least 5 squares from each print
½ yard for binding
½ yard for backing
14 x 42 piece of batting

Finished runner is about 12.5 x 39.5

Seam allowance ¼ inch
This pattern is for the Confident Beginner
Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.
WOF stands for Width of Fabric

I began by cutting a 3.5 inch WOF strip from the prints in Sunshine Serenade. Then sub-cut into 3.5 inch squares. Five squares of the same print are needed for each cross. The additional squares will be used as filler.

I began by laying out squares in a cross pattern and then interlocking the next print. I filled with other squares to make the runner be four squares wide by thirteen down.
Once you have a pleasing arrangement, begin sewing the squares into rows and then the rows together until the top is sewn together.
*pressing tip* I press after each row is sewn together, pressing all one direction and then alternating the next row, so when sewing the rows together, the seams interlock for precise piecing.

Here is my completed top, ready to begin quilting it.

I chose to quilt this runner using wavy lines.

For binding, I sewed three 2.5 inch WOF strips together of the dark pink print in this line. Hand sew or machine sew the binding down, whatever is your personal preference.

I hope that you have enjoyed this project!
